'The matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inert, so hopelessly dependent on the system that they will fight to protect it.'
At the end of the day, we're all being pushed into the same recruitment, the same line. Some might rebel, but then it messes it up for everyone else and people get hurt.
We're just not appreciating each other any more. We're scared of each other, but can you blame us? It's because they made us different, made one earn more than the other, made the doctor better and more valuable than the bin man.
They've made us all lazy and greedy, all striving for one thing; to be better, to get better. To fulfill OUR desires and escape OUR suffering. They've told us since childhood that the fairytale will make us happy.
The truth is freedom.
Institutions; marriage, the family, religion, education, the media, they are all there to control us and to make us comply. They tell us what they want us to hear, they give us what they perceive to make us superficially happy.
